The Taxpayer's Pocket Guide to the FY2014-15 State Budget
Florida TaxWatch is pleased to present taxpayers and policy makers with a useful guide to your FY2014-15 State Budget, effective July 1, 2014. The $77 billion budget is the largest in the state’s history. After several very tight budget years, slowly recovering national and state economies have led to stronger growth of state revenues. Even after providing $500 million in tax relief, the Governor and Legislature were able to craft a budget that increased state spending by $2.8 billion (3.75 percent). Diverse areas including education, transportation, water, economic development and cultural affairs all saw significant boosts in funding over the previous year.
More than $22 billion was invested in education (the largest amount in history), and per-student public school spending represents the second highest amount ever appropriated. Legislators were also able to secure funding for many local projects in their districts.
In addition to many facts and figures explaining this year’s budget, past data is also provided for historical context. We hope this new annual budget pocket guide gives you the information you need to better understand where and how your tax dollars are being spent.
