The following are the results of a public opinion poll of 400 likely general election voters within the City of Tallahassee, conducted on July 7 and 8, 2016. The poll contains a margin of error of +/-5.00% at a 95% confidence interval.

Top-line results:

  • 57.5% of respondents support splitting the $5 million in “efficiencies” into infrastructure investments and a property tax decrease.
  • 61.2% of respondents prefer reducing property taxes to eliminating the business licensee fee for a savings of $2 million.
  • 71.9% of respondents believe that the city commission will not reduce property taxes, despite recent calls from residents to do so.
  • 64.6% of respondents believe that the recent retroactive raises given to senior city staff members were not deserved.
  • 54.3% of respondents believe that the transparency of this year’s budget process would be best described as “fair” or “poor.”
