Center for Competitive Florida
Florida TaxWatch Center for Competitive Florida Mission/Background
The Center for Competitive Florida at Florida TaxWatch (CCF) was
established by action of the Board of Trustees in the Spring of 1997 to complement the tax
and fiscal policy research and advocacy of Florida TaxWatch. In creating the Center, the
Board acted to maintain the undiluted and specific focus of Florida TaxWatch, while
acknowledging that there are myriad issues relating to Florida′s long-term economic
sustainability and competitiveness that indirectly, but inescapably, affect the fiscal
soundness of Florida and the wellbeing of its citizen taxpayers.
After several years of ad hoc operation, during which time Florida
TaxWatch-CCF assumed the lead role in as many as a dozen research projects of great
significance to the State and of demonstrable value to our elected officials, the Trustees,
as part of the 25th Anniversary review of Florida TaxWatch's Strategic Plan, elected to make
fully operational the Center for Competitive Florida. Florida TaxWatch–CCF is guided by a
distinguished volunteer Advisory Board and operates in conformity with the principles,
standards, and processes of Florida TaxWatch. All projects and project performance shall be
fully compliant with the research guidelines and procedures as established by Florida
TaxWatch on May 23, 2005. As an integral part of Florida TaxWatch, Florida TaxWatch-CCF is
charged with the responsibility to:
- identify competitiveness trends and issues of statewide importance and applicability;
- conduct appropriate research and analysis;
- design and implement appropriate communications and public education program; and
- provide leadership and advocacy in policy formulation designed and directed to assure Florida's economic growth, security, and sustainability in the 21st Century.
