Betty Coxe
Betty Coxe has served as the Executive Director of the Florida TaxWatch Center for
Educational Performance and Accountability (CEPA) since January, 2005. She is responsible for guiding
CEPA′s efforts in conducting educational research, issuing publications, and engaging in meaningful
actions to promote exemplary PreK-20 student achievement within a cost-effective environment.
Her career spans more than 30 years in education. She has taught at the elementary, middle, and high
school levels in a variety of subjects, particularly English and mathematics, and has been a high
school principal. She also directed curriculum and operational programs at the county level. Finally,
she served nine years in multiple posts at the Florida Department of Education (DOE), including Deputy
Commissioner. She chaired the DOE′s team that implemented the Governor′s A+ Plan for Education.
Betty was selected by the United States Department of Education as one of twenty-seven educators throughout
the nation to serve on the federal No Child Left Behind Act Negotiated Rulemaking Committee in 2002. She holds a Bachelor′s Degree in English Education from the University of Florida and a Master′s
Degree in Reading from Nova Southeastern University. She has completed advanced coursework in School
Leadership, in which she is fully certified.
Betty is married to educator Terry Coxe. Together they have
four adult children and five grandchildren.
